At the time, he was afraid that his name being mentioned in the movie would create unwanted attention. ![]() ![]() The other thing that bothered him was that at the time of the film's release, Franzese had famously "quit" the Mafia after he got out of prison, thus breaking the Mafia code. The film version of Franzese is sitting at the bar, turns to face Henry and says "Yeah, I'm gonna see that guy." Part of what shocked Franzese was the fact that theoretically he shouldn't have been mentioned at all since the Bamboo Lounge was a hang out of the Lucchese family (which Henry, Jimmy and Tommy were apart of) and he was a member of the Colombo family. His wife was even more shocked, and they had to leave the theatre. Real life ex-Mafia capo Michael Franzese said he was watching Goodfellas with his wife shortly after he had gotten out of prison and was shocked to hear his name mentioned during the scene of Henry walking through the Bamboo Lounge talking about the various wiseguys in the place.
